Katie Lumsden is an author, BookTuber and freelance editor based in London. She writes historical fiction inspired by her love of Victorian history and literature. Katie’s YouTube channel, Books and Things, has 28,000 subscribers. She has written two novels, The Secrets of Hartwood Hall and The Trouble with Mrs Montgomery Hurst.

Katie Lumsden read Jane Eyre at the age of thirteen and never looked back. She spent her teenage years devouring nineteenth century literature, reading every Dickens, Brontë and Austen novel she could find. She has a degree in English literature and history from the University of Durham and an MA in creative writing from Bath Spa University. Katie’s YouTube channel, Books and Things, has 28,000 subscribers. She lives in London and works as an editor. Her first novel, The Secrets of Hartwood Hall, was shortlisted for the HWA Debut Crown Award. Her second novel, The Trouble with Mrs Montgomery Hurst, is coming out in summer 2024.

Katie Lumsden is a novelist and short story writer from London.

She read Jane Eyre at the age of thirteen and never looked back. She spent her teenage years devouring nineteenth century literature, reading every Dickens, Brontë, Gaskell, Trollope, Hardy and Austen novel she could find. It is her love of books and history that inspires her to write.

After a degree in English literature and history, Katie studied for an MA in creative writing at Bath Spa University, before embarking on a career in the publishing industry. Her short stories have been shortlisted for the London Short Story Prize and the Bridport Prize, and have been published in various literary magazines, including Litro and Brittle Star.

Katie’s YouTube channel, Books and Things, has 28,000 subscribers. Here she reviews and recommends books, focusing on classics and historical fiction. Through her BookTube and Bookstagram channels, she co-founded and hosts the readathon #Victober, which has been running for eight years and dedicates the month of October to reading Victorian literature.

She lives in London and works as a freelance editor. Her first novel, The Secrets of Hartwood Hall, was shortlisted for the HWA Debut Crown Award. Her second novel, The Trouble with Mrs Montgomery Hurst, is coming out in summer 2024.
